Colourless
or yellowish, thick, syrupy liquid. Odourless or nearly odourless, and has a
sweet taste.

a few drops of a solution (1 in 20) to 5 mL of hot, alkaline cupric tartrate
TS: a red precipitate of cuprous oxide is formed (distinction from sucrose).

more than 0.60mL of 0.1 N sodium hydroxide is required to produce a pink

TS: a blue colour is produced.

of 0.1 N iodine: no blue colour is produced.
